Last updated 22 September 2026. The SEEN. app is run by Kahuku Apps (“we”, “us”). Questions: hello@seen-irl.com. How we handle your information is set out separately in our Privacy Policy.
The short version
SEEN. shows you the people who checked into the same place you did. You must be 18 or older. Be a decent person: no harassment, no explicit photos, no pretending to be somebody you are not. Two people reporting you takes your account off the app.
Nearly everything you do here is deleted on a timer, and once it is gone we cannot get it back. Paid plans are billed by Apple and renew every month until you cancel.
The short version is a summary. The sections below are the terms that actually apply.

1. Agreeing to these terms
These terms are a contract between you and SEEN. Creating an account, or using the SEEN. app or this website, means you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use SEEN.
2. Who may use SEEN.
- You must be 18 or older. We ask for your birthdate at sign-up and the app refuses accounts under 18. Lying about your age is a breach of these terms and grounds for removal.
- You must be legally able to enter a contract, and not barred from the service under the laws that apply to you.
- You must not have been removed from SEEN. before. A suspended account does not get a fresh start under a new phone number.
- You may hold one account. Accounts are personal and cannot be sold, shared or transferred.
3. Your account
- You sign in with your phone number, verified by a code sent over SMS. Standard message and data rates from your carrier apply.
- Keep your phone and number secure. Anyone who can receive your SMS can reach your account. Tell us at once if you think somebody else has got in.
- What you put on your profile must be true and must be about you: your own first name, your real birthdate, and recent photos of yourself.
- You are responsible for everything done through your account.
4. What SEEN. is, and what it is not
SEEN. is a place-scoped discovery app. You check into a place — a bar, a party, a festival, a conference — and see the other people who checked into that same place. You signal that you have seen someone; if they signal back while you are both still checked in, you both find out and can talk. Once one of you leaves, that chance is gone. A pass is never revealed to anyone.
What SEEN. is not:
- It is not a background check. We do not verify identity, run criminal record checks, or confirm that anyone is who they say they are. A photo check runs on your phone to confirm a face is present in a profile picture; it does not confirm whose face.
- It is not a safety service. Checking into a place does not mean anyone is vouching for the people there, including the place.
- It is not a record. Nothing you do here is stored for you to come back to. See section 11.
5. Your photos, profile and messages
You own what you post. We do not claim ownership of your photos, your profile or your messages.
To run the app we need your permission to show that content to the people it is meant for. So you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, resize and display your content solely in order to operate SEEN. — that means showing your profile to people inside places you check into, delivering your messages to people you have matched with, and keeping a copy for the moderation and safety purposes described in section 7. The licence ends when the content is deleted, except for anything already retained as evidence in a report.
By posting content you confirm that:
- It is yours, or you have the rights to it.
- The photos are of you, recent, and not of anyone else without their agreement — no children, ever.
- It contains no nudity, sexual content, violence or hate, and nothing illegal.
- It contains no other person's private information, and no phone numbers, addresses or payment details.
What other people do with it is outside our control. Anyone who can see your profile can photograph their own screen. Treat everything you put on SEEN. as something a stranger could keep. Copying, saving or republishing somebody else's photos or messages outside the app is a breach of these terms — but we cannot prevent it.
6. Rules of conduct
Do not use SEEN. to do any of the following.
Towards other people
- Harass, threaten, stalk, intimidate or abuse anyone.
- Send sexual or explicit material, or anything a reasonable person would find obscene.
- Pretend to be someone else, use another person's photos, or run a fake profile.
- Contact anyone under 18, or use the app if you are under 18.
- Solicit money, run a scam, promote a business, recruit, advertise, or spam.
- Ask for or share anyone's personal information without their agreement.
- Discriminate against or demean anyone on the basis of who they are.
Towards the service
- Use bots, scripts, scrapers or any automated means to read the app or collect profiles.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or interfere with the app, or attempt to reach data you are not meant to see.
- Work around any limit, gate, paywall or purchase check, or use a modified client.
- Create accounts in bulk, or create one after being removed.
- Open a place you have no connection to, or one designed to mislead the people who check into it.
- Report someone falsely, or organise reports to get someone removed.
7. Reporting, blocking and suspension
- Blocking is free, silent and unlimited. Block someone and you disappear from each other. They are not told. Our moderation team receives a safety review item and notification; a block alone does not add an automatic strike.
- Reporting is a complaint we act on. Reports are counted by distinct reporter: one report puts a warning on the account that must be read before the app can be used again, and two reports from two different people suspend the account, which removes it from every place immediately.
- When a report concerns a conversation, we keep a copy of up to the last 30 messages of that conversation as evidence, and the person reported is blocked for the reporter's protection.
- Reporters are told only that the report was received. Whether it produced a warning or a suspension is not disclosed.
- We may also warn, suspend, remove content, close an account or refuse service at our discretion where we believe these terms have been broken or someone is at risk — with or without a report, and without notice where the risk is immediate.
- Think a suspension was wrong? Email hello@seen-irl.com and we will look at it.
- Suspension does not refund a subscription or unused credits.
8. Meeting people is your risk
We do not screen anyone. SEEN. shows you who checked in; it makes no claim about who they are or how they will behave. You are solely responsible for your interactions, online and in person.
Meet in public. Tell a friend where you are. Do not send money to anyone you have met here — no exceptions, whatever the story. Trust your instinct and leave.
If you are in danger, contact the emergency services, not us.
9. Paid plans, credits and billing
SEEN. is free to use. Paid plans lift the limits and unlock extra features. A free account gets 3 people revealed and 3 of the people who chose you revealed at each place, on a visit that lasts 12 hours from the moment it starts. Walking into another place starts its own allowance.
| Plan | Price | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| SEEN.+ | $9.99 / month | Everyone revealed at every place, and everyone who chose you |
| SEEN.+ TRAVEL | $19.99 / month | Everything in SEEN.+, plus looking into places you have not checked into |
| SEEN.+ HOST | $29.99 / month | Everything in SEEN.+ TRAVEL, plus opening your own places and claiming an existing one |
| Top-up | $2.99 one-off | 3 more looks and 3 more names: 6 and 6 instead of 3 and 3. Unused ones carry over to the next place and keep until you use them |
- Apple bills you, not us. Purchases are made through your Apple ID and governed by Apple's payment terms as well as these.
- Subscriptions renew automatically each month at the then-current price until you cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date, in your Apple ID subscription settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Refunds are Apple's to give. We cannot issue them. Request one through Apple. Except where the law requires otherwise, payments are non-refundable, and cancelling part way through a month does not refund the rest of it.
- Credits are not money. Looks and names bought as a top-up have no cash value, cannot be transferred or sold, and are lost when the account is deleted or suspended.
- Prices can change. We will give notice before a change affects a renewal, and you can cancel rather than accept it. Prices shown are in US dollars and exclude any tax charged where you are.
- Looking into a place with TRAVEL is read-only. Nothing done while looking counts as seeing or being seen, and nobody there is told you looked.
10. Opening a place, and claiming a business
A SEEN.+ HOST subscription lets you open your own places and claim an existing place on the map. If you do:
- You are responsible for the place you open — its name, description, cover image, check-in range and how long it stays open — and for making sure it does not mislead the people who join it.
- You may only claim a place you are authorised to represent. Claiming a business you have nothing to do with is a breach of these terms, and we will hand the place over.
- A claim is held for as long as the HOST subscription is live. Let it lapse and you stop being able to edit the place; after a grace period of 30 days it may be released to somebody else. Your claim history is not erased by a lapse.
- Cover images offered in the app come from third-party libraries and are subject to those libraries' own licences. Do not upload an image you do not have the rights to.
- We may rename, edit, close or remove any place, and reverse any claim, where it breaks these terms or misrepresents a real place.
- A place you open is deleted on the same schedule as every other place. Hosting does not buy permanence.
11. Everything is deleted on a timer
This is a feature of SEEN., not a fault, and you should plan around it:
- A place, and everything inside it — attendees, signals, matches and conversations — is deleted about a day after the place ends.
- A match and its conversation last three days at the outside, then go.
- You drop out of a place automatically once you stop appearing there.
- Leaving a conversation deletes your copy of it. The other person keeps theirs and is not told you left.
There are no backups and nothing can be restored. If you want to keep a phone number, a name or a plan you made with somebody, take it out of the app while the conversation is alive.
12. Changes to the service
We may add, change, limit or discontinue any part of SEEN. — including plans, prices, limits and features — and may set or adjust limits on use. Where a change materially reduces something you have paid for, you can cancel your subscription.
13. Ending your account
- You can delete your account at any time from your profile. That removes your profile, your photos and your presence in every place. It does not cancel an Apple subscription — do that in your Apple ID settings.
- We may suspend or close your account for breach of these terms, for risk to other people, or where we are required to.
- Sections that by their nature should survive — content licence for retained evidence, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity and disputes — survive the end of your account.
14. Disclaimers
SEEN. is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free, that any location, distance or presence shown is accurate, that notifications will arrive, that you will meet anyone, or that anyone you meet is who they claim to be. We are not responsible for the conduct of any user, on the app or off it.
15. Limits on what we owe you
To the fullest extent the law allows, SEEN. is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, lost data, lost opportunity, or harm arising from your dealings with any other user.
Our total liability for any claim relating to SEEN. is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or US$100.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions. Where that is so, the limits above apply only as far as they are permitted, and nothing here excludes liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
16. Claims caused by you
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SEEN., its members and staff, against claims, damages, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your use of SEEN., your content, your breach of these terms, or your dealings with another user.
17. Disputes and governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. You and we agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in New Castle County, Delaware, except where your local consumer law gives you the right to sue where you live.
Before starting anything formal, email hello@seen-irl.com with the problem. Most things are settled faster that way.
18. Apple App Store terms
- This agreement is between you and SEEN. only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for SEEN. or its content.
- Your licence to use SEEN. is a non-transferable licence to run it on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service.
- Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for SEEN.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may tell Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price. Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Apple is not responsible for product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet a legal requirement, or claims under consumer protection or privacy law; those are ours.
- If a third party claims the app infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for handling it.
- You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a US embargo or designated as terrorist-supporting, and are not on any US list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
19. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do. If a change materially affects your rights we will give notice in the app or by push notification before it takes effect. Continuing to use SEEN. after that means you accept the new terms; if you do not, delete your account.
20. Odds and ends
- These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us about SEEN.
- If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stands.
- Not enforcing a term once does not waive it.
- You may not assign these terms. We may assign them as part of a sale or reorganisation of the business.
- Notices to us go to hello@seen-irl.com. Notices to you go to the app, or the email address on your profile.
